ATSM F3445-24 SRO

Heartland Is Proud to present Four Robust Slip Resistant Boots that are Certified ASTM F3445-24 SRO.

Slip and fall injuries are the leading cause of occupational injury in the U.S. Heartland has built four boot solutions — Certified for Conformance with ASTM F3445-24 — around a single scientific foundation: the superior stability of slip resistant boots in the wet, oily, contaminated debris laden environments where workers actually spend their shifts.

What is ASTM F3445-24 SRO certification?

ASTM
F3445-24 SRO (Slip Resistant Oily) is is the active ASTM International safety standard that establishes minimum slip-resistance performance requirements for safety and occupational footwear. It was introduced to eliminate misleading marketing claims like "super grippy" or "non-slip," this standard provides an objective, standardized metric that footwear must achieve to be legally labeled with an official "SR" (Slip Resistant) or "SRO" (Slip Resistant Oily/Wet).

Core Requirements of the Standard are:

  • The Testing Framework: The
standard mandates that completed footwear must be tested using the ASTM F2913 Whole Shoe Tester. This machine simulates real human strides by measuring traction at the heel (forward slips) and the toe (backward slips).
  • The Metric: It measures the footwear's Coefficient of Friction (COF). A higher COF means a lower risk of slipping.

All applicable Heartland boots are tested by Precision Testing Laboratories in Nashville, TN, an A2LA-accredited, ILAC-MRA recognized facility. Full lab reports are available for OSHA 1910.136 compliance documentation.

What's the difference between vulcanized rubber and polyurethane outsoles?

Vulcanized rubber's cross-linked structure (with no ester linkages and decreased susceptibility to hydrolysis breakdown). For workers in daily oily or wet environments, this means the certified slip-resistance performance on Day 1 is less likely to deteriorate in wet and humid conditions. Vulcanized rubber also has a number of properties favorable to non slip safety (see our white paper “The Case for the Leader ”Polyurethane (PU) outsoles can also have excellent non slip performance and wear, particularly in dry and lightly wet environments. However they do contain ester linkages in their polymer chains, that can deteriorate in liquid environments, particularly those involving heat, cleaning chemicals, and animal fats, water molecules which can attack these bonds over time, gradually degrading the outsole compound.

Which Heartland safety boot is right for my environment?

It depends on your primary hazard. For daily oily/wet floors, food processing, or animal fat exposure, Liquid Oily, debris, uneven surfaces choose the Leader ENS. For heavy structural demands like construction or cold storage, the Leader TD combines a TPU upper with the same vulcanized rubber outsole. For general industrial or logistics in dry to lightly wet conditions, the Leader PU offers SRO certification with a lighter, comfort-forward build. For value-tier programs that still require a vulcanized rubber outsole, the 706 XO is your best friend. Contact our safety sales team for a direct recommendation. (sales@heartlandfootwearinc.com)

Can I get lab documentation for OSHA compliance?

Yes. All Heartland SRO certifications are independently tested by Precision Testing Laboratories, Nashville, TN, which is an A2LA-accredited, ILAC-MRA recognized laboratory. Lab reports are available for the Leader ENS (Report #61796), Leader TD (#61797), and Leader PU (#61798). Contact us at sales@heartlandfootwearinc.com to request documentation.
